Established in 1797, Jeffersontown is a great example of the amenities and opportunities throughout the great State of Kentucky.
The Kentucky Railway Museum owes its beginning to a small number of rail enthusiasts who formed a local chapter of the National Railway Historical Society in 1948. In the early 1950s, the Chapter asked the Louisville and Nashville Railroad for the donation of a steam locomotive to form the nucleus of a railway museum.
The museum was officially chartered in 1954, and with the donation of steam locomotive #152, we leased six acres of land on River Road and opened to the public on Memorial Day 1958. The museum grew with the addition of other donated rail equipment and artifacts, with over 100,000 visitors coming through the gates by the early 1960s. Over 200,000 people came to the River Road site in the first 10 years of operation!

Louisville Slugger Museum & Factory is all about celebrating the extraordinary role of Louisville Slugger in baseball’s past, present and future. We’re here to delight our guests and create joyful, lifetime memories.
Baseball connects generations, we see it here every day. Since the sport is such a big part of American history and culture, even visitors who don’t consider themselves big fans find something here that resonates with them. Maybe it’s the fun stories and fascinating machinery in the factory, or the hands on exhibits, or one of our special exhibitions that broaden the interpretation of baseball.
And, really, who doesn’t love a free mini-bat?
Yes, Bourbon is a spirit that comes in a glass, but it’s also a spirit that defines our culture and compassion, our arts and parks, our creative energy. It’s this same spirit that continued and created Louisville itself – a city that combines heritage with innovation, authenticity with originality, quirkiness with friendliness in a way that’s completely unique to our region.
We’re an entirely different type of Southern. From boundary pushing twists on Southern cuisine that have made us one of the “10 Best New Food Cities” in America to our one and only Urban Bourbon Experience™, featuring the world’s only, city-wide trail filled with award-winning micro-distilleries, exhibits and craft cocktail destinations. Then discover one-of-a-kind attractions like the legendary Churchill Downs, Louisville Slugger Museum & Factory, and the Muhammad Ali Center. And that’s just your first day here.

We are the home for Louisville’s nationally-renowned arts scene, to the Louisville Orchestra, Kentucky Opera, Louisville Ballet, Stage One Family Theatre, and PNC Bank Broadway in Louisville, as well as a host of community theaters and our own Kentucky Performing Arts Presents performances. The three theaters of The Kentucky Center, along with the elegant W. L. Lyons Brown Theatre, and Old Forester’s Paristown Hall, are Kentucky’s showcases for the performing arts. From Broadway to ballet, from blues to bluegrass, from big bands to indie bands, our stages overflow with magnificent entertainment almost every night of the year.
The Kentucky Center has four times been voted Kentucky’s best venue for music, theater and dance by the readers of Kentucky Monthly magazine. But Kentucky Performing Arts is more than stages and theaters. It is the Governor’s School for the Arts at the University of Kentucky, offering three weeks of intensive training for hundreds of Kentucky’s finest high school artists every summer. Its education and outreach programs bring the arts to children and adults in dozens of community centers, healthcare facilities and schools in all of Kentucky’s educational regions. Through its programming and education departments, The Center is able to bring the arts to virtually all of Kentucky’s 120 counties. And its access services ensure that everyone can experience the wonders of the performing arts without barriers or restrictions.
